In response to today’s announcement by the Home Secretary, Patrick Troy, Chief Executive, British Parking Association commented:
“The British Parking Association (BPA) welcomes Home Office Minister Alan Campbell’s tabling of laws which will include the licensing of private wheel clamping firms, and the creation of an independent appeals system. The BPA has been working with Government to introduce regulation in this sector and we are delighted that progress is being made. We will continue to work alongside Government and industry to develop this initiative. However we are disappointed that the Government did not decide to go further and apply these proposed regulations to all parking on private land, including ticketing.
“There are many companies working in the private parking industry which provide a fair and efficient service. Introducing legislation will allow these companies to get on with their work within a properly regulated environment, and drive out those that don’t want to operate fairly. The BPA already has a Code of Practice that incorporates many of the points covered in the proposed amendment.”
