Anchor supports local RFU
12/05/2010
The Anchor team were delighted to sponsor the last game of the season at Waterloo RFC, and took the opportunity to invite 20 of its customers along to watch. Anchor Security MD Adrian Powell states “It was a fantastic event with customers coming from as far away as Northern Ireland, and we couldn’t have asked for better weather, and, as a fan of Waterloo, a better result!”
Waterloo finished a dismal season with a spirited performance, their first win in 2010, against a barely recognisable Fylde line-up. With twelve changes to Fylde's starting XV the previous week due to Lancashire calls and injuries, and Loo anxious to please a decent crowd at Blundellsands, this was always going to be a tough challenge for the visitors.
And so it proved with a frantic burst of early Waterloo scoring. Fylde hadn't got out of 1st gear when poor defending let in Waterloo for two early tries. First of all, after just four minutes a rolling Loo maul splintered the Fylde pack and scrum-half Alex Rees nipped over for an easy try. Adam Anderson, normally a scrum-half but playing at fly-half on this occasion, converted the try and then added a penalty kick to extend the Waterloo lead to 10-0. To rub it in, Fylde lost no 8 Josh Beaumont to the sinbin after only 9 minutes, his first yellow card in his short rugby career, and Loo took ample advantage.
After a spirited and entertaining game, Waterloo wanted the match more than the Woodlands side, and were deserved winners. Waterloo 34 Fylde 5
